Unraveling the Science of Reading with Hollis Scarborough's Reading Rope

Presented by Sue Grisko, M.S. Ed.

Tuesday, March 8, 2022

Zoom

This presentation will deepen your knowledge about the Science of Reading.  The presenter will use Hollis Scarborough's Reading Rope as a visual metaphor of skilled reading, describe each of the three strands of Word Recognition and the five strands of Language Comprehension, and explain how 95-98% of children can learn how to read.  Resources about the Science of Reading will also be shared.

During this presentation, using pipe cleaners, we will combine each of the eight strands of the Reading Rope as we discuss each separately--first the three strands representing Word Recognition, then the five strands for Language Comprehension.

Sue Grisko has a Master's of Science in Education in Reading.  She is SLANT certified and a national LETRS Facilitator presenting to educators around the country.  She is also past president of the Illinois branch of the International Dyslexia Association.

PLD/SE membership is required for CPDU credits.  Members will receive 1.5 CPDUs for this program.
