This presentation will identify the key changes in federal special education policy and funding, current proposals, and what can be done to reduce the possible negative impacts.  Participants will learn the key changes in law, funding, administration and court decisions which have already impacted special education under the Trump Administration.  In addition, the key proposals which are being considered and their impact will be discussed,  and strategies for responding at the federal, local, and child specific levels will be highlighted, with a question and answer session at the end.

Matt Cohen, LLC, is the founder of the law firm, Matt Cohen and Associates, and is well known for his work in special education law, having worked on several amendments to the mental health and special education laws in Illinois and the IDEA legislation at the federal level.  He is active in CHADD, the Illinois Attorney General's Special Education Advisory Committee, and the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, and serves as a legal representative of the Chicago Public Schools Special Education Advocacy Group.  He is the author of A Guide to Special Education Advocacy:  What Parents, Clinicians and Advocates Need to Know, and has been recognized as an Illinois Super Lawyer and a Leading Lawyer in Illinois.  He may be reached at matt@mattcohenandassociates.com.

Current PLD/SE membership is required for CPDU credits.

This event is free, but pre-registration is required.  Registration closes on Sunday, October 19th.  Registrants will receive a link and a passcode the day before the event.
