The Development of Executive Functioning through Coaching and Family Systems

Presented by Jordi Kleiner, PhD, BCET and

Jessica Lieberman, MEd.

Tuesday, January 10, 2023

7:00 PM

Zoom

Dr. Kleiner and Jessica Lieberman, MEd, will explore ways that executive functioning challenges cascade through family systems and present techniques to help clients develop organizational skills through the content and format of executive functioning coaching. The presentation will include case study presentations of a parent and child each addressing their organizational challenges in simultaneous parallel EF coaching sessions. Dr. Kleiner and Ms. Lieberman will explain how Nonlinear Dynamic Systems Theory can explain recurring dynamics across settings as well as detailing co-created actionable individualized strategies that clients are using to break patterns and overcome their longstanding organizational challenges.

Jordi Kleiner, PhD, BCET, is the director of the North Shore Learning Clinic in Evanston.  In addition to collaborating with his talented team of diagnosticians and educational specialists, he conducts comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations of children, adolescents, and adults thought to have learning disabilities, and provides individualized educational therapy to those struggling with learning disabilities, language disorders, and attention disorders.  He received his BA in Psychology and Education from Swarthmore College and his MA and PhD in Learning Disabilities and Language & Cognition from Northwestern University.  His research has examined how children are more successful at learning when their parents have a solid understanding of their children's skill levels.  He is a board certified educational therapist, accredited by the Association of Educational Therapists, and has presented at national conferences on the intersection of diagnosis and intervention in the learning lives of children and adults.

Jessica Lieberman, MEd, is a learning specialist working with students in her private practice as well as at the North Shore Learning Clinic.  She develops and implements individualized educational treatment plans aligned with psychoeducational evaluations and/or informal assessments for students diagnosed with learning disabilities, attention disorders, cognitive delays, autism and emotional dysregulation.  She received her BA in Sociology from DePaul University and her MEd in Learning Disabilities and Behavior Disorders from Northeastern Illinois University.  She served on the Board of Directors for the Learning Disability Association (LDA) and has presented original materials at numerous conferences focused on strategies to improve comprehension and executive functioning skills.
