What Happens When the School Bus Stops: Supporting Students with Disabilities into Adulthood

Teri Steinberg will speak on how to prepare for what happens at 22 years of age, when the school is no longer responsible for filling a student's day. She will focus on ways students can start transition preparation at 14 1/2, and what to do at 18 years of age. She will also offer practical steps toward the process of Discovery, finding the student's gifts and abilities to create a job fit that's right for the student. Participants will see where they are in the process and to take on more responsibilities and self-direction. The alphabet soup of PUNS, ISC, SP, DRS, CILA, and MICROBOARDS will also be discussed.
Teri Steinberg is a frequent lecturer, facilitator, consultant, and trainer on disability issues. She has worked in the disability community through grants from the Illinois Council of Developmental Disabilities, the Department of Human Services, and the Illinois State Board of Education, including as Faculty Advisor for Illinois Partners in Policymaking, Chicago Regional Manager for MicroBoards & Cooperatives, and Community Partner for Illinois Autism Technical Training & Assistance Project. She consults on transition programs, and with schools and families on person-centered planning in keeping with the principles of self-determination and living an inclusive life in the community.

PLD/SE membership is required for CPDU credits. Members will receive 1.5 CPDUs for this program.
